Razvan Popovici (RO)

Born into a a family of musicians, Razvan Popovici studied in Salzburg, Paris and Freiburg with Peter Langgartner, Jean Sulem, Wolfram Christ and Christoph Wyneken.

He is founder and executive director of the Chiemgauer Musikfrühling Festival in Germany and of the SoNoRo Festival in Bucharest. He was appointed executive director oft he Europalia Festival 2019/20 in Brussels.

Razvan is a member of the Ensemble Raro, with wich he tours regularly Europe, Japan and North America. The ensemble released so far nine worldwide acclaimed CDs.

As a soloist Razvan has appeared in the Théatre-dés-Champs-Elysées in Paris, the Cologne Philharmony, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, the Atheneum in Bucharest and the Prinzregententheater in Munich with orchestras such as the Kobe Chamber Orchestra, the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, the CHAARTS Chamber Aartists Zürich, the Lohja City Orchestra, Kamerata Kronstadt, Transylvania Symphony Orchestra Cluj, the Sibiu State Philharmonic, the Romanian National Radio Orchestra or the George Enescu Philharmonic Bucharest under the baton of Shlomo Mintz, Christian Badea, John Axelrod, Gabriel Bebeselea, Valentin Uryupin, Anton Sherbakov, Cristian Orosanu, Jonathan Berman, Diana Ketler, Christoph Wyneken oder Tomas Djupsjöbacka.

As a chamber musician he has performed in the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall and the South Bank Centre in London, the Musashino Hall and Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Gasteig in Munich, Kennedy Center in Washington, De Singel in Antwerpen, BOZAR in Brussels and both in the Konzerthaus und Musikverein in Vienna.

Razvan is regularly guest at some of the most renowned festivals in the world such as Lucerne Festival, Wiener Festwochen, Rheingau Musikfestival, George Enescu Festival, Spoleto Festival, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, Vivarte Festival Moscow, Rolandseck Festival, Boswiler Sommer, Schwetzinger Festspielen, Spoleto Festival, Ferrarra Musica, Elverum Festspielen, Mittelfest in Cividale, Festival Academy Budapest and Stavanger Festival.

He has performed extensively with Natalia Gutman, Shlomo Mintz, Enrico Pace, Giovanni Sollima, Konstantin Lifschitz, Radovan Vlatkovic, Olli Mustonen, Louis Lortie, Sergej Nakariakov, Daishin Kashimoto, Gilles Apap, Boris Brovtsyn, Ilya Gringolts, Juliane Banse, Christoph Prégardien, Martin Lovett, Mihaela Martin, Philippe Graffin, Frans Helmerson, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Patrick Gallois,

Razvan played as an extra player with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and has been guest principal violist in many orchestras including the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Aartists Zürich, the Gstaad Festival Orchestra and the Kobe Chamber Orchestra.

Razvan gave master classes in Europe, Japan and South America. He teaches regularly at the Villa Musica Foundation in Mainz.

Recents concert higlights include performances in Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival, Intonations Festival in Berlin, St-Barths Music Festival, Arte Vertenses Festival in Tiradentes, Brazil, Malaga Chamber Music Festival as well as in halls like Philharmonie de Paris, Beethoven Haus in Bonn, as well as in Palais Coburg in Vienna and Tretyakow Gallery in Moscow.

In 2023 he was appointed viola professor at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp.
