Peeter Sarapuu has for the majority of his career been connected to the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ENSO), where he initially worked between 1985–1991 and then, after seven seasons as the principal bassoonist in different Finnish orchestras, from 1998 again. Since 2005 he has been the concertmaster of the bassoon section of the ERSO.

Sarapuu has performed as a soloist with the ERSO, the Lapi Chamber Orchestra and the Vaasa City Orchestra, including bassoon concertos by Vivaldi, Mozart, Weber and Williams. He has collaborated with conductors such as Peeter Lilje, Arvo Volmer, Nikolai Alekseev, Olari Elts and others. Sarapuu has played with the NYYD Ensemble, Drottingholm Baroque Orchestra, Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, Opus X Ensemble, Corelli Consorti, Reval Ensemble, The Theatre of Voices (England), Kesselberg Ensemble (Switzerland), Melomania (The Netherlands) and many other ensembles. He has performed as a soloist and a chamber musician in several Estonian and international music festivals including “NYYD”, “Märzmusik”, “Klangspuren”, Bruges festival, “Europamusicale”, Vienna Haydn Festival, La Folle Journée France and Japan, and others. Sarapuu is a Walter-artist since 2010. He has been nominated for the Estonian National Cultural Award twice (2012 and, 2016).

Besides his career as a performer, Sarapuu is also a valued teacher, as he is teaching at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and giving several master courses all year around.

At the XVI Tallinn Chamber Music Festival 2020, Peeter Sarapuu performed with great success in Tõnis Kaumann's Bassoon Concerto, which was commissioned by the festival.
