Peeter Paemurru
PEETER PAEMURRU graduated from the Tallinn Music High School with a specialization in double bass (1966). In the same year, he began his studies at the Tallinn State Conservatory in Vladimir Luht's class for double bass and Ivo Juul's class for cello. He then continued his cello studies at the Moscow State Conservatory in the class of Prof. Sergei Shirinsky, graduating in 1973. In the same year, he started working at the Estonian Theatre Orchestra as the principal cellist.
Paemurru achieved 1st place in the National String Players' Competition (1975), after which he continued his studies at the Moscow State Conservatory as an assistant under the guidance of Prof. Valentin Feigin. After completing his studies (1977), he began teaching at the Tallinn Conservatory. Paemurru has taught at the Cairo Conservatory (1979-1980) and worked as the Assistant Concertmaster of the Mexico City Symphony Orchestra (1981-1984). From 2000 to 2013, Professor Paemurru was the head of the String Department at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
He has performed as a soloist, conductor, and chamber musician and has participated in music festivals in many foreign countries. For a long time, Paemurru has been an orchestral teaching instructor at the German-French Youth Forum in Bayreuth and Lyon. He has been a jury member for several competitions, organized numerous orchestra performances and tours in Estonia and abroad, and conducted masterclasses in various music institutions around the world.
