Angelika Klas-Fagerlund
Angelika Klas is known as a particularly versatile artist. In addition to the basic repertoire of a lyric soprano, she is a skillful interpreter of Astor Piazzolla and tango music. Her extensive repertoire includes orchestral and chamber music from baroque to contemporary music as well as operetta and stage music.
Angelika Klas has graduated from the soloist department of the Sibelius Academy. She has also studied at the Royal Danish Conservatory and participated in several international master classes.
Angelika Klas has appeared in several central opera roles. Among these, e.g. Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro (The Countess), Bizet's Carmen (Carmen) and Piazzolla's Maria de Buenos Aires (Maria). She has performed with these roles at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Finnish National Opera, Birgita festival, Novaya Opera and Mihhailovski Opera.
She is also a sought-after operetta and musical theater soloist and has appeared in the lead roles in several works such as J. Strauss's Fledermaus (Rosalinde) and Wienerblut (Countess Zedlau), J. Offenbach's Orphée aux enfers (Eurydike), E. Kálman's Mariza (Mariza) and F. Léhar's The Count of Luxemburg (Angéle Didier). She will make her debut as Sylva Varescu in E.Kálman’s operetta Gypsy Princess in the summer of 2023.
Angelika Klas has performed at several international festivals, e.g. Korsholma Music Festival, Turku Music Festival, Naantali Music Festival, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival and Helsinki Festival Weeks. She has visited most Finnish orchestras as a soloist. Among these, e.g. Tampere Philharmonic, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Kymi Sinfonietta, Oulu Sinfonia, Kuopio City Orchestra, Lappeenranta City Orchestra and Pori Sinfonietta. She has also given concerts in Sweden, Estonia, Germany, France, Spain, Lithuania, Hungary, Norway, Russia and Denmark.
Angelika Klas is the soloist of the Kotaja Quintet, which specializes in tango music. She has released several records; Tango Querido (2010), Kohtalona Tango (2013), Tähtisumua (2017) and Tango Piazzolla (2018).
